ARE YOU DRINKING ENOUGH WATER?
I have asked this question so many times in my career! And I get two common answers: 'uhhh probably not...' OR 'I don't know how much I should be having.'
Experts suggest that the appropriate amount of water to drink per day varies per person. By taking your body weight and dividing that number by two, you will get your recommended amount of water to consume in ounces (oz). --Of course this may not be true for everyone, but this is sufficient for the average person.--
Example: If you have someone who weighs 150lbs. 150/2 = 75 ((This person is recommended to drink 75 oz of water per day))
If that same person is one who exercises - you would add 16-20 oz of water to their daily water intake goal. This would increase our 150lb participant to drinking 91-95 oz per day.
You should also add 16-20 oz of water to the daily intake goal if you drink coffee! That brings our 150lb participant to 111-115 oz per day!
You do the math... How many ounces of water should you be drinking?
Have you been drinking enough water?? If not...
Try these SIMPLE ways to keep track of your intake:
- Set alarms in your phone to remind you to drink up and how much water you should have consumed by that time (EX: 1 water bottle should be gone by 9:30am!)
- If you use a planner, have small circles to fill in when you finish a water bottle for each day.
- Place the number of water bottles you need to drink per day in rubber bands around you bottle. When you finish one, slide one rubber band down/up away from the rest. This will remind you each time you take a drink that you have a goal to reach!
**One challenge that I like to give to people is to drink ONE GALLON {128 oz} of water per day! This is what I typically strive for - and once you get in the habit of it, it's easy! I use a gallon jug of water and carry it around, re-filling my water bottle throughout the day as needed!
What ways have you kept track of water? What has helped you to stay on track with water intake?
